You can reset your Instagram password with a phone number but only if you have entered it in your profile and it has been verified.
If you do not have a verified phone number you will have to use your registered email to reset your Instagram password. The steps to change your password using your email are:
  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Tap Get Help Signing In.
  1. Type in your Instagram username or email address.
  2. Tap Send Login Link.
  3. Open your email account.
  4. Open the Help with your account email. Check the spam folder if you do not see the email right away.
  5. Open the Reset your Instagram password here link.
  6. Type in your new password twice.
  7. Tap Reset Password.
You're all set! Now you have successfully changed your Instagram account password.
